Is your Canon Printer still showing empty or low ink? We have the solution

The ink status monitor on Canon printers isn't always an accurate indicator of the remaining ink level. This is because it provides an estimate based on the number of pages printed since the cartridge was last replaced.

The issue arises because the chip on the cartridge may continue to show a low or empty ink level from its prior usage. Since the chip cannot always be reset, even after refilling and installing the remanufactured cartridge in a different Canon printer, it may still display as empty.

The solution below is effective for most refilled Canon cartridges, including the below models:

PG-37 / CL-38

PG-40 / CL-41

PG50 / CL-51

PG-510 / CL-511

PG-512 / CL-513

PG540 / CL-541

PG545 / CL-546

How to disable the low ink error

We recommend disabling the ink status monitor on your Canon printer. To do this just hold the printer's Stop/Cancel button for 5 - 10 seconds. The button is a red triangle in a circle as shown here.

Once you have held the Stop/Cancel button you should no longer see any updates about your printer's ink levels. While some customers would prefer to have the ability to see and monitor their ink levels this means you can still benefit from the savings available when choosing remanufactured or refilled ink cartridges.

It's important to keep an eye on the print quality of these cartridges. When you notice fading, it's a sign that the ink is running low and it's time to replace them.

Lastly, disregard any “Print Quality” warnings from your printer. These are automatically triggered by the use of a refilled cartridge, but the printer and cartridge will function properly until it runs out of ink.
