Support for common issues when using toner cartridges
There are various reasons why sometimes a printer will reject a cartridge; a lot depends on the actual printer manufacturer and model. A cartridge rejection can be caused by a chip failure, or in the case of some Brother toner cartridges, a toner cartridge reset gear.
On this page we hope to help you with basic troubleshooting so you can get your printer working ASAP.
Cleaning Up Spilt Toner
Before we get into cartridge issues we thought we would cover off what to do if you have a leaking toner cartridge and toner has spilt. Firstly, don't panic! Done correctly toner can be easily cleaned up.
Toner particles are extremely small, so small in fact they will pass straight through most filters found in vacuum cleaners. Some modern machines contain HEPA filters which will capture toner particles. If your vacuum cleaner is not to HEPA standard we advise against using it.
If you have spilt a lot the best way to clean it up is as follows.
Use a dustpan and brush and gently sweep the toner into a bin bag.
Once the bulk of the toner has been removed wipe the area and clean up the remaining toner with a COLD damp cloth.
Do not use HOT or warm water as this will cause the toner to stick to the surface you are cleaning.
Also, when washing your hands after cleaning use COLD water too.
