How To Print... More Handy Printing Tips!

The beauty of printing lies in its simplicity...unfortunately, some print tasks are anything but simple.
Earlier this week, we shared some basic printing tips with you, including how to print a single email, how to print multiple pages on a single sheet and other tasks that are pretty easy but not always obvious.
This post is going to cover some more of those kinds of print jobs, helping you to spend less time trawling the web for answers and more time actually printing!
How To Print Labels Using Microsoft Word
Printing labels on Word used to be quite a difficult task, requiring some Publisher skills and some creative layouts. Luckily, Microsoft have realised that this process was quite time-consuming and have introduced a feature that makes printing labels simple.
In Word, go to the Mailings tab and select the ‘Labels’ button in the ‘Create’ subsection. At this point, you should be met with a screen that has a field to enter an address and a couple of other options. Enter your address if you are making address labels.
The section of this screen that we are most interested in is print section. Here, you can choose to either print an entire sheet of the same label, or set a ‘single label’. To print a single label, you will need to enter a ‘column’ and ‘row’ (if you have a pre-made sheet of labels this will be easy, if not, you may need to do some rough dividing up of the page and some trial and error). This will instruct the printer to only print on a single section of the page, allowing you to print different content on different labels.
You can also choose a template of your specific label sheet manufacturer by going to ‘options’ and choosing your manufacturer from the drop-down menu. This provides the details of your particular label sheet and allows for a perfect print! If you can’t see your manufacturer there, take a look online for downloadable templates!
How To Manually Print Double-Sided
We’ve long preached the virtues of double-sided printing on the Cartridge World blog, but if you don’t have a printer with duplex capabilities then double-sided printing can be difficult, especially if you’re printing a particularly lengthy document.
For two page documents, manual duplex printing is simple; you just need to print the pages separately, printing the first page then reinserting the sheet on the reverse side and printing again. Check how your printer takes in paper to get an idea of how to position your sheet.
For lengthy word documents, the process is a bit more difficult. This article sums up the process nicely; in a nutshell, you need to print the odd numbered pages first, by selecting odd numbered pages in the ‘page range’ option in ‘print settings’.
Once you’ve printed these pages, reverse the pages and then print the even numbered pages on the opposite side. Make sure that the relevant pages are aligned first (so page 2 will go on the back of page 1, 4 on 3, and so on). You should have perfect double-sided printing as a result!
