Cartridge World declares printer cartridge amnesty on World Environment Day
There are almost 250 Cartridge World stores in the UK and all staff are marking the 5th June by highlighting to customers how a commitment to recycling cartridges can make a huge impact on preserving our environment as well as saving home and business printer users a very significant amount of money.
Cartridge World customers are already making a significant impact through their commitment to recycling. The company’s latest figures for the past 12 months (April 2009 to March 2010) show that Cartridge World saved over 2 million inkjet cartridges from going to landfill and saved £7.6 million for its retail customers. Cartridge World also saved 242,000 laser cartridges from landfill, resulting in savings in excess of £6.7 million for business customers.
Undoubtedly there is a long way to go. It is estimated that each year in the UK alone over 45 million cartridges are needlessly thrown into landfill*, each one taking up to 1,000 years to decompose**.
Mark Holland, Cartridge World UK’s General Manager explains: “To mark World Environment Day, we are simply asking everyone that uses a printer to reflect on the way in which they dispose of empty cartridges. Many can be recycled, refilled and reused, offering the same high quality printing as an original cartridge, saving you money as well as helping preserve our planet’s resources.”
Cartridge World’s ongoing commitment to recycling includes ‘Recycle It’ a programme in partnership with schools across the UK where pupils collect empty printer cartridges and exchange them for income to buy equipment for their school.
Cartridge World also offers a new online initiative, which encourages customers to request a freepost envelope on the Cartridge World website to send in their empty cartridges for recycling.
